This program is part of the Cumulus Media Management System from Canto Software. With FilterGenerator you can create File Filter modules for Cumulus to catalog assets of any file type into a Cumulus catalog.
1. Select "New" from the File menu. A new window is opened. The following example shows a dialog that is already filled to describe a filter for screen fonts. The filter will later catalog those assets and show the given picture as their thumbnail.

2. Type in the file type code. If you don't know the type code but have a file of that type on your disk click the "Same Type As" button and select the file. You can also drag and drop a file from Finder 7.1.2 or later to the file type field.
3. You can edit the format field to give your filter a name that appears behind the file type in the filter list of Cumulus. This field is optional.
4. Select the way the filter creates thumbnails for your assets: choose "Finder Icon" if you want it to take the same icon as the Finder. Choose "Custom Picture" if you want your own thumbnail. Select the thumbnail box and paste or drag and drop a picture to it.
5. Select "Save As" from the file menu and save the window to file. Copy the file to the "File Filters" folder of Cumulus and start Cumulus.
You can also open and modify existing filters but you should not save to a filter file that was included in the Cumulus retail package.
